King Arthur

The content of my last blog was steeped in more myth then fact, again keeping with this theme I am going to talk about the legendary King Arthur. The history books talk of Arthur as a “Dux Ballorium” or leader in battle, this could mean he wasn’t necessarily a king; he could have been a commander or a prince, however most likely he was a king of sorts. After Rome fell in 476 AD the island of Britain fell into chaos, the Irish attacked from the west, the Scotti and Pictti from the north began to take more territory, the Orkneys from Scandinavia began small invasions as well as the Angles and Juetts—the major Saxon tribes—also adding to the destruction is the fact that the roman governors and Celtic (British) kings began to create individual kingdoms. Two leaders stand out at this time Vortigorne ether a former Roman governor or a Celtic king of some roman blood, and Ambrosias Aruilianus a member of the Aruilii a Roman family related to the Emperors. Also a more legendary leader named Rhitomus was known for his rule of a land in Britain and parts of France. However the actual identity of Arthur is debated, Arthur comes from the british word for Bear (Arth) and may have been combined with the latin word (Ursus) or could have come from Arthreg or Arthrhi meaning Bear-King. One candidate for the legendary Arthur is a young king from what is now the welsh border named Owain Ddantgwyn son of Ennaun know ironically as the Dragon, so the king if he was Arthur his name would be, Rithomus Arthreg Owain Ddantqwyn ap Dralgg.

Romulus Silvii

The Legendary founders of Rome where Romulus and Remus Silvii, and we don't fully know if they truly existed or not. I am of the opinion that they did as the fact that ROME comes from Romulus and usually if a city is named after you, you existed--however Athens is named after Athena and there are a few other examples--.

The fact that they were raised by wolves is also strange, however several children in India have been known to be raised by wolves, the infants grew into leaders in the shepherd/outlaw community of the Latin country side. Eventually the twins help their grandfather, Numitor, recapture his city of Alba Longa, leading an army of shepherds and outlaws was Romulus as Remus created an army on the inside. Later the army needed a place to stay to the Twins lead the way to the seven hills that now make up Rome.

Now this happened around 753BC and I was wondering if anyone else could tell me if there is any specific historical evidence about it. Please give sources for any opinions.
